Re: The Boston Celtics Mailing List Digest V9 #192

The Celtics have three players getting the max $ this year and two or three
that are overpaid on the roster as well. Until you lose a Max contract they
can't add anyone else. Wasting $3 Mil a year on McCarty cost us a draft
pick $-wise. No team has 4 Max contracts that I'm aware of.

If the Celtics sign Rogers and are one of the 4-5 teams over the salary cap
out of 28 this year, does that officially end the being "cheap" issue?
It's not, IMO, that they are cheap. It that they wasted the money they have
spent by overpaying players they do have or taking on stupid trades that
cost cap space instead of creating cap space. Blame the basketball
management for screwing up the team not the business side. Gaston has spent
more money then most every other team, it's the basketball guys who have
spent unwisely.

Plus look at the last 10 years of drafts. The failure is with the
basketball management, but which one of us is going to send Red out of the
room on draft day? He is idolized, but he has killed this team with a
collection of first round failures that simply boggles the mind.

Add Pitino's incredible failures and here we are today, Eastern Conference
Finalists in our two "All Stars" first NBA playoff experience who were
surrounded by guys who wouldn't start on most teams in the league.

Not bad considering that only four teams made it into their conference
finals out of the entire league. We did better then the two billionaire big
spenders. Spending it wisely is the key, not overspending.

Good stuff snipped.....

Hey if we can get Odom or Olowakandi over Rogers I would definitely support
such a move. Those guys will demand the max. though. And the cheap Celtics
aren't shelling that out.

Even worse the Celts just essentially want the same team back..ugh.
Sometimes I miss trader Rick. Bleh. I am depressed the Celts weren't good
enough
and they are only getting worse.
