Re: Wallace: Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

Isn't that a little harsh? Before bailing on the Lakers even Jerry West was
talking about staying under the cap and the Lakers have more cash then the
Celtics.

Isn't the problem that Gaston/Pond allowed players to be paid much more then
they are worth Vs. being cheap? Either ownership makes the final decision
on players or you need to hang the "basketball people".

Gaston/Pond paid for Pitino but that failed, they paid for the practice
facility which is a plus. They are stuck with players they can't trade and
aren't good enough to win it all.

Ownerships mistake has been listening to these so called basketball people
they have.

Like all the other teams in the league, except what 2/3, the teams work
within a budget. The problem seems to be poor scouting, poor drafting, poor
trading, poor advice and poor coaching for the last 10 years.

Red has been a disaster (but deserves to be President until he dies), the
drafts have been a farce (Acie Earl, Montross, Smith, Billups, Mercer,
Moiso, etc...) the plan to tank the season to get the #1 failed, the trades
have hurt more then helped, Bird picked Pitino to run the franchise into the
ground and effectively eliminated the opportunity to buy the team with his
group because of his mouth. This is the first time in three years that the
captain even showed up to camp in shape or participated in pre-season mini
camps. The problems are deeper then adding a free agent which no other team
wants either.

I think Gaston/Pond are at fault, but not for being cheap. They are at
fault because they are not basketball guys themselves (like most owners) and
have taken advice from people they shouldn't have for much too long.

Filling the front office, the scouting group and the coaching staff with
former Celtics champions, with or without Gaston/Pond being around would go
a long way, IMO. They don't benefit from the former players which is a
mistake.

They should join this list, damn it! That would help. Look how we could
save them from another wasted trade.

No, for Thanksdad (and, by extension, Wallace), cap room IS the end. I bet
CFO
Pondscum has calculated the optimal expenditure/revenue ratio - if the team
doesn't totally suck, fans will come, but spending more on the team doesn't
bring in enough additional revenue to offset the extra spending. So they
won't,
as long as the team's performance doesn't hurt fan interest.
