Inside Dish: Stoudemire's rookie numbers approach
Garnett's
December 8, 2002

One of the most impressive things about 20-year-old Suns
rookie PF Amare Stoudemire is that he has already
developed a go-to move, one thing most preps-to-pros
players don't have. Stoudemire does a great job taking
the ball into the paint and delivering a hook shot. With
more seasoning, and when Stoudemire masters some
countermoves, the hook will be unstoppable.

As it stands, Stoudemire's first-year numbers are far
ahead of all NBA players who arrived directly from high
school except PF Kevin Garnett, who averaged 10.4 points
and 6.3 rebounds his rookie season. Stoudemire is
averaging 9.8 points and 8.3 rebounds. By comparison, SG
Tracy McGrady averaged just 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds
in his first year and SG Kobe Bryant averaged 7.6 points
and 1.9 rebounds. (end)
