Kedrick Brown

Isn't this interesting? This is exactly the kind of wild card that can
change a draft. Joe makes a great point about how we might view this kid if
he had worked out at Chicago or in private workouts. He may be a "top-10
lock" like the other 14 or 15 top-10 locks. And let's face it, we've zeroed
in on Murphy, Bradley, etc., not really because of anything the Celtics have
said, but because of the coverage in the Boston media. Bradley got special
attention because he's a local kid, Murphy because, well, he's a white guy
with an Irish name. It's not as if the Celtics have said they would pick
these guys. In fact, all of their quotes about what they want indicate more
of a Kedrick Brown-type of player than a Murphy/Bradley. I'm not necessarily
agreeing, but they keep talking about adding athletes a la Kobe and McGrady.
Murphy and Bradley bring a lot of things to the table, but great athleticism
isn't one of them.

But Josh is right that this seems a little early. But would Houston do an
11&21 swap for 13&18. That would get the Celtics ahead of the Blazers, where
they presumably could draft Kedrick Brown. At 13 they probably still could
either Murphy or Bradley, if they choose, or maybe Cook, Haywood or Woods.
Just speculation, though.

The description of Kedrick Brown makes him sound a lot like Shawn Marion,
and we all know how good he would look in green. I guess the idea of a
mysterious Pippen/Marion-type player excites me more than BSG's take that
"the Celtics are zeroing in on Joe Johnson and Troy Murphy." Johnson and
Murphy seem like nice enough players and probably would come in and play
significant minutes right away. But I'm hoping for that potential home run
from one of our three picks. Maybe it's Kedrick Brown. Who knows?
