PT for the rookies
Putting the best spin on things, Boston is hoping to have four athletic
rookies (including Moiso) form the future nucleus of the team with Walker
and Pierce. Out of that you are going to hope to get four or five young
guys that can really play.
Fiddling on a pad of paper with the math, I was surprised to conclude that
Joe Johnson, Forte and Brown can easily combine for just over 60 minutes
per game (some getting more than others) without disrupting the PT of the
established veterans. Well that's actually assuming Bryant Stith isn't
re-signed, but on the other hand it also assumes every player is available
all 82 games (with injuries, there will be a lot more additional minutes to
spread around).
So, in fact, there seems to be plenty of minutes available assuming
realistically that one of these 20-year-olds is initially only ready for
Moiso-type minutes (8 per game or whatever).
In an ideal world, you'd see a third and even fourth scorer emerge next
year with Toine and Pierce still among the top 15 NBA scorers. Then in the
following seasons you'll see four guys, even five guys, bunched together
every night in the 14-19ppg range like the Auerbach-era Celtics.
Go Celts!
