I would simplify it by removing the players who have very insignificant

The worst part of this is taking Eric Williams' contract.
I disagree with your final simplification of Mercer -> Kedrick Brown
I'd be more agreeable with
Mercer -> Forte + Kedrick Brown
That being said, I would take what we have now over what we had before.
However, it's also clear that years were wasted in the process.
