When Montross was drafted, there was no such thing as a 3 year rookie contract. It
was either sign him or loose his rights, he would be able to go back into the
following year's draft. Also the duration of the deal can be anything from 2 year
to 10 year (or even more?). I think (no.1 pick overall) Glenn Robinson's demand
for a 10 year 100million deal (for a rookie) was the last straw. It made the
owners sit up and negotiated the current CBA to having a 3 year rookie contract
term (for 1st rd picks)

anyway, to answer the question, I think ML Carr signed Montross to a 10 year 20
mil deal in 94/95, and it should expire in 2004/05.
