There's a difference. Shawn Kemp, as fat and ridiculed as he was, averaged
something like 18 ppg, 9 rpg during the year before he was traded. Juwan
Howard is averaging 18 ppg, 7 rpg this year. There's going to be demand for
power forward/center types who can put up those sorts of numbers. Beyond
that, only two teams (Portland and Dallas) are truly in the business of
taking on these outrageous contracts. I don't see either of them taking on
Kenny's contract. And few teams are dying to take on an overpaid 4 apg
point guard.

It's a different situation, because the buyout clause was written into the
contract from the beginning. Originally it was something like a 4 yr, $40M
contract, but after the second year the team had the option to buy out the
rest for $5M. So its going to save them a load of cap room. Cory
Alexander's contract didn't have any such clause, so they were basically at
his mercy when they negotiated that buyout.
