Re: astute analysis by BSG, addressing Mark's point

I also thought BSG's analysis was pretty good, although I don't buy the
double-teaming theory as an explanation for 10 three-pointers a night from
your power forward. You don't beat a double team by moving 24 feet from the
basket and shooting threes. You beat it by finding the open man. Do that
often enough, and teams will think twice about double-teaming you. There's a
reason why Bird, one of the best scorers in NBA history, often wasn't
double-teamed. He destroyed it with crisp passing. That's what Antoine must
do.

The other thing that bothers me about BSG's unabashed fawning over Toine
these days is his refusal to consider his atrocious shooting percentage. He
ran an interesting comparison with other power forwards, and Toine's .417
shooting percentage stood out like a sore thumb. But BSG didn't mention it.
I mean, it's impossible to argue that Toine hasn't been playing better, but
let's be fair. His shot selection and percentage is awful, and until that
improves, he'll never be considered among the "elite" power forwards in the
league (come on Moiso, make your move next year and get Toine to SF where he
belongs).

Anyway, I don't want Toine to deteriorate into one of those soft, perimeter
power forwards like Cliff Robinson, which could happen if he falls in love
with the three too much. He's a great offensive rebounder, but that skill is
wasted when he's standing 24 feet from the basket.

Here's hoping it's just an exaggeration that Toine will correct.
