The Celtics aren't developing their rookies, thereby decreasing their
ability to
deal them off for the Center/Inside Presence/PG they need
to truly contend. Teams will overpay for unproven Big Men, ala
O'Neal, Jonathan Bender, etc,. but unproven shooting guards are a dime a
dozen.,
and proven shooting guards aren't much more valauble. Or as Don Issel
said: I'm not
trading LaFrentz for another small forward or shooting guard. Yes, teams
like Philly
have traded players like Stackhouse for Ratliff, but Stackhouse was an
All-Star
quality shooting guard. Does Johnson, Brown, or Forte look like they'll
be an
All-Star anytime soon? Well do they?

Gimmick defenses AND offences only take you so far. Real contending
teams win with
quality center/low post play and a big time point guard or adequate
substitute .....

There are two franchise players available in the upcoming draft: Ming
and Williams,
and the C's have very little chance of getting them. For those who doubt
Ming.... Don't! Do you doubt Nowitzki, Ilgauskas, Gasol, Stojachovic
etc.
And Williams is Isiah Thomas personified....

Until the Celtics acquire a franchise center or point guard, they will
not
compete with the better teams in the NBA.

So, go ahead and rave about the current success, but the long term
future ain't so hot.
