I agree with Jim's post, but I didn't want to just add a "me,too".

First, Jalen Rose has been playing the point for Thomas, for how
long, I don't know, maybe all year. Maybe it's had a small effect on
his assist numbers. Maybe he shouldn't be consider just a "forward",
I don't know.

Secondly, I did think of another area in which Antoine could improve,
lest ye think all is hunky-dory (it's just better than the first 35
games of this year and all other years): I wish Walker would make
better decisions in the open court. Sometimes, he's got the exact
right pass. Other times ... not so much.

Subject: Random thoughts

It may be easy to poke fun at Ray but he was not the only one who thought
the Cs blew last year's pick. I was hoping for Courtney Alexander or Mo
Petersen or perhaps even DeShawn Stephenson (IIRC). The funniest thing I
read about Moiso was a crack (before the draft, mind you) by Josh Ozersky
that Moiso was "Waltah McCarty with a French accent".

BTW - when did Tony Battie morph into Pervis Ellison?

Now it sounds like neither Kenny Anderson nor Randy Brown will be back next
year. I'll be very surprised if Bryant Stith is back either, despite all the
praise for his being the good soldier, defender and all-around team guy. The
Cs desperately need more production from his SG spot and I think it far more
likely that they'll be breaking in someone who they see as a long-term
solution at the spot, especially considering that they have 3 1st rounders.
Plus Stith has got to be thinking of parlaying this season into a back-up
stint with a title contender before his body gives out.

It will be difficult to unload Anderson, if whoever the Cs hire as GM etc
decides that is the direction to go. I wonder if Portland would consider
Walker + Anderson for Stoudamire + Davis? I wonder if the Cs should even
consider it - I've never been much a fan of the 'mighty mouth' even when he
played for AZ.

Walker, say what you want, has got to be one of the most entertaining
players going. Your either cursing or praising him from one moment to the
next - regardless of which team you're rooting for. He's one of those unique
talents that can keep both teams in the game. Not only is he a league leader
in 3pointers made and leads all PFs in assists but he also leads the league
in missed 3pointers (the basketball equivalent of GIDP since it often leads
to opposition fastbreaks) and I'd be surprised if he didn't lead all PFs in
TOs. And for all his well-roundedness he is still lacking in one key
fundamental - defense, the one that is supposedly key to winning. I guess
that's why we all have such fun with him.

Amen to that. There was the key basket in the Atlanta game where Paul Pierce
hit
that MONSTER three-pointer where the Howard David and Cedric Maxwell could
not
believe the shot, not a direct quote, but "there were four hands right in
his face
and he hit that shot."

Every game, especially in the past fortnight, I've heard Cedric or Howard
saying
that "Paul beats et another double team for the bucket".

The second Paul gets the ball the double-team arrives and often teams are
playing
close to illegal defense to ensure a quick double team on him.

Actually, Rose has been the point guard for the majority of the season.

I remember one classic complaint by their fans on their list about Isiah
Thomas'
coaching was that Travis Best was carrying injuries with him and that they
had a
healthy Tyus Edney on the injured list who had played rather well and given
the
Pacers the lift required when he was given the chance earlier in the year.

Anyways, finally after about five or six games where Best was obviously not
at
his best (no pun intended) and couldn't play even solid minutes for them and
Rose struggling (he does have problems at the point, his off-the-ball
movement
and other facets where he is superb cannot be used nearly as much as if he
wasn't the point guard) a reporter asked about Tyus Edney. Thomas' answer
was
that "Jalen Rose was suffice as the point guard and I want to test Jonathan
Bender by giving him some experience playing in the backcourt." The Pacers
were
(and still are) struggling and were still fighting for the playoff spot some
fifty-five, sixty games into the season and Thomas was testing a younger
player?

So he has been playing mostly point guard most of the season, except when
Best
or Edney have been on the court with him, of course.

When is this jerk going to be held accountable for his completely unfounded,

asinine statements? I have been lurking for quite awhile and getting input
from some seasoned list vets, and the credibility of this list is very
suspect when so many seem to judge the quality of the day based on the
existence and value of wisdom so parted by one Ray. Listen to yourselves
when you say things like "Where is Ray, or it sure is good to have Ray
back". This idiot is a hack pure and simple. Any moron without a day job
can surf the net, picking bits and pieces of whatever he can find to prop up

his worthless claims, but when you actually go so far as to want to speak as

the gospel or some voice of reason for a group of "interested" fans, you
damn well better come clean when you screw up, and not just hide away for a
month or more, to allow or assume your stupidity to fade away.

Ray, from all many of us can see, you are a completely worthless example of
someone trying to have credibility. IF you are going to make completely
stupid claims, then be a man and have some accountability to when your
"promises or guarantees" don't even remotely come to pass. I don't follow
the 10th round prospects in the draft to any degree, but what W is saying
here, demands some response from you RAY or would you please do us all a
favor and SHUT THE HELL UP. So far no one, most notably Ray himself, has
refuted what W has to say. So come back with something resembling some
response or take what shread of credibility you have left and go away.

You are not a reporter or columnist Ray, take some points from folks like
Tom, Joe and Josh, and it is clear to us all why you are not one.

Again list, hold others accountable when they make such far reaching
statements or expect the credibility of this entire list to be suspect, if
it isn't too late.

"Cheap" or "legit" assists...hmmm... .

While I think I know what you're saying, do you cancel a shot because
a guy was cherry picking? Take the basket away when you don't hear
the guy say "bank"?

The "assist" is a good statistic, but doesn't measure all the "good
passes" that occur in a game, either. To actually answer your
question, he of course gets both, just like every other NBA player.

>If Walker ever becomes a more efficient scorer and learns how to get to the
>foul line a la Pierce, look out NBA.

I often think that Walker's bullish drives to the basket are attempts
at this. Other players get that call when they similarly drive to
the hoop. In other words, the subjective refs have an enormous
amount to do with this. You might say Walker could learn to
cultivate a relationship with the officials in order to get calls, I
guess. But I think things like how refs perceive events like being
stabbed in the off-season effect how they make calls on the court.

>My

Agreed. That's about it.

As I understand it we have a choice between....

#14 our pick and an 8th seed in the lottery
#11 Denver pick (protected anyway so ping pong balls are moot)

Or

#11 Denver
#10 Our pick and miniscule # of ping pong balls

Basically, the Pacers, C's, and Denver are the only teams in the .400-.500
range right now and it doesn't look like another team will affect this
grouping so one of the 2 above scenarios should come true.

I'd rather make the playoffs. I know we got Peirce at 10, but how often is
10 the cutoff rather than just good luck/evaluation and picking a gem
anywhere. I think the latter happens more frequently. Name a year recently
when 2 picks were combined for anything above the 6th pick or 2 picks were
combined for an impact player...I can think of Nowitzki but this worked
against (IMO) the team trading the 2 picks (Traylor #6 for Dirk #9 and ???)!

From Duncan onward I'll never believe the ping pong balls will bring
goodwill to the leprechaun!

Basically, I'm saying they have just as much chance (or more likely not) of
getting a superstar in either scenario.

That's my semi-statistically enhanced, voodoo economics, objective view of
the situation :^) I really believe it is far more important for a young
team building some serious chemistry and maturing slowly to reach this
major milestone (to them only maybe) and use it as incentive next year to
push it further.

Man, I heard the whole game via WEEI and what a tough loss. Palacio's 2
missed free throws didn't help us either.(this kid just withers under
pressure just like in the Chicago game)

Austin powers killed us coz nobody could guard him and bad calls (or
non-calls) helped the Pacers win this one. This loss could become the
turning point for the "quest" for the last spot. Either the team would get
hyped up to get better in the next coming games or simply give up the fight
knowing the tough sched ahead.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Type: text/plain;

That's exactly what I tried.

For the filename, it only says /0001video/palacio_m_buzzer_122800.avi

I figured it must be =
www.nba.com/media/0001video/palacio_m_buzzer_122800.avi

But it is password protected.

Do you have any idea how to either get by the password protection, or =
somehow capture the video with another program and save it?

Thanx,

Josh

It is actually opening the file and saving it into a temporary file, =
depending on your browser, and will eventually open. It's bloody =
annoying, I know, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I use internet explorer and there is an option in a menu to "View =
Source," ie. see what the link is for the file.

Right-mouse-click at the bottom of the popup screen and click on this =
option to "View Source." It will open a notepad file and in there =
somewhere is the link that you want.=20

Simply copy the link, paste it into your browser address bar and bob's =
your uncle, Miracle Milt in no time.

I did find it, but I wanted to save it as a file and couldn't.

    It wouldn't let me.

Do you know how to save it as an avi file on my computer?

Go to nba.com and look at past courtside countdowns. His =
gamewinner was on 28th December 2000.
If you can't find it give me a buzz and I'll send it to you.

Also, there is a nice clip of Palacio converting a nice layin =
against the Bulls at the Celtics homepage- nba.com.

I agree 100%. I would carry it even farther. If all the players think that
they truly have a chance to succeed, then they are more likely to arrive at
preseason camp "ready to play". They are also more likely to focus on the
season ahead and focus during the season. There isn't any where to hide.
If you do something once, then that becomes your baseline for the next
season.

Imagine if Battie comes to play next season like he did before he got
injured. That alone upgrades this team. Blount and Palacio continue to
improve. Walker actually shows up in shape and ready to play from day one.
Pierce will get stronger, Williams is further away from his injury and is
more confident.

But beyond that, the Ref's are more likely to call a foul your way if your a
playoff team then not. How many time during the season does a
"judgement/guess" call go your way help to keep the momentum going.

>It sure provides a better set of incentives than all-star appearances.

Absolutely, hopefully the "veteran All Star" mentality has been recognized
for the silliness of what it was. As Russell said, once you have the money
it's all about rings.

>Exposure to the playoffs is also more likely (far moreso than a jump from
14 to
>10 in the draft) to focus Paul and his teammates on what is truly important
in

Here, here. Well said.

The real concern is what happens in the front office this off season. I'm
willing to stand pat for a year and see what happens. Let Red take another
swing at the draft (Just read Monitors pick's and select the best available
player regardless of anything else or get a consensus from the list. ;).
Let Pond oversee the operations and let OB coach. This team doesn't need a
shake up. Hell I would support Gaston coming to the games and being Cuban
Jr.
