I haven't posted on the Pierce topic at all but trying to be completely
objective I think the list is making too much of Dan's opinion on this
matter.  I see his point completely.  The argument that we have all done
"crazy things" at that age is absurd.  When someone is a public figure
(political,entertainment,sports), they should be much more in tune with
where they are going and their surroundings.  I mean if Dan was posting a
similar opinion on the Monica Seles incident that would be one thing but he
is basically saying, that this is not a "wrong place at the wrong time", it
is the wrong place.  On this point I completely agree.  I think people on
the list actually stretched his opinion to include someone who has no
sympathy at all for Pierce.  I didn't read that really.

Was Pierce dumb for being in an establishment that, from all accounts,
sounds like the red light district of Boston, where known previous assaults
have taken place?  No way.  Not at 2 in the morning with a golf tournament
the next day.

At 22, yeah...he has the right to party all night and to NOT be attacked.
However, as a public figure, you have to consider absolutely EVERYTHING when
it comes to going out in public and probably the number one thing is where
you are going and who is around you.  This may have been a private party but
who would want to be at a party where known former gang members are hangin.
I don't know if accountability is the right word but I think it's more
common sense.  No one, and I believe even Dan, wished this upon Paul, but I
guarantee you Paul will be much more particular on where he's going and who
will be there the next time around.

I am saddened by this whole turn of events and I have prayed for a quick
recovery for our Celtic's star.  I do believe Dan's opinion would have
represented by Dad's if I was stabbed in a similar situation, "Son, I'm glad
you will be okay (hugs,tears,kisses)....Now, what the He** were you doing
there?!" "Don't you know what has happened there?"  "Didn't you know gang
members would be there?"  (then a slap upside the head).

I certainly haven't agreed with all of Dan's rebuttals but if I was being
attacked by everyone I might have added a little more venom to my posts as
well.

Things like this should never happen but they do and at least as a Celtic's
fan (let's face it if Paul Pierce was a student at Boston College this would
not have mattered to any of us so trying to bring this back to basketball)
it happened off-season and not during the all-star break.  I think, too,
this may enlighten not only Paul but his teamates how blessed they are to be
in the positions they are in, to make a ton of money playing a sport they
hopefully love.  I expect Pierce to come back with a vegeance, if not this
year, then next year with an All-star caliber season.  I do love his
optimism early on and I hope that Dan isn't delisted for not sharing the
opinion of the majority - what makes these lists thrive (I'm on a Yankee
list as well) is the mature disagreements.  When it succumbs to
name-calling, and chants to throw someone off, I can't help but feel like
this list is turning into the internet version of "Lord of the Flies".

Talk about being on a soap box.  I was on a palet of soap at Price Club.
