don't you think they've been hearing it from Pitino, Josh? Why would Heinsohn

<DIV><FONT color=#0000ff face=Arial size=2><SPAN class=780185914-28112000>Pitino
has been saying it, just like he's been saying the team needs to push the ball
on offense and reverse the ball in the halfcourt. Just like he's been saying
they need to clamp down in their man-to-man. He says it, he coaches it, he
teaches it... and the team's two best players don't listen. You hear guys like
Stith and Herren say they have learned more about basketball in two months with
Pitino than at any point in their careers... you hear Mark Jackson say the same
thing, that Pitino was the best coach he ever played for... and yet the team's
two best players seem to think they don't need to listen.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#0000ff face=Arial size=2><SPAN class=780185914-28112000>Pitino
knows basketball. He has made some terrible personnel decisions and creates too
much controversy with many of his comments, but he knows basketball. He can
coach. He's just stuck with two "stars" who refuse to listen. It's too bad.
Pitino will be gone after this season, some NBA retread like Del Harris will
come in, and Pierce and Walker will still be here. They're suddenly going to
listen to a Del Harris?</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#0000ff face=Arial size=2><SPAN class=780185914-28112000>The
truth is, it's time for both of them to go. They're talented players and would
fetch a lot on the open market. Bring in players who understand what it is to be
part of a team, and what it takes to win. Remember when we used to dismiss
players like Dominique and Alex English, because they only cared about scoring
points, while the Celtics of those days only cared about winning? Well, the
roles are reversed. The Celtic captains seem content with their 20 points, even
if it takes them 25 shots and the team loses in the process.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#0000ff face=Arial size=2><SPAN class=780185914-28112000>I
can't believe I even hedged when we were discussing the hypothetical Kevin
Garnett for Walker and Pierce trade. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Garnett has never
played for the Green, but he's more of a Celtic than Walker or Pierce. He should
be the model for the kind of player we go after... driven to win, relentless,
enthusiastic, loyal, unselfish. We talk a lot about the lousy talent around
Pierce and Walker, but surround Garnett with team guys like Stith, Herren, VP,
Adrian, Randy Brown, and I guarantee we're a lot better than we are right now.
Are those supporting players that much worse than the bunch in
Minnesota?</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

class=780185914-28112000>Anyway, this isn't about Garnett. It's about Walker and
Pierce and their inexcusable behavior this season. As a long-time Celtic fan,
I'm offended by their selfishness and unwillingness to buy into the coach's
system. I don't care if they don't agree with it or if the fans don't agree with
it. They are paid to do what the coach says. Period. I'm so sick of them I can't
stand it.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>All of this, Pitino believes, is a subplot to the club's
biggest weakness: transition defense. He attributed losses to Toronto,
Cleveland, and Vancouver to the club's inability to get back and defend after
missed shots. <STRONG>He even had the team listen to Tom Heinsohn's television
analysis to drive home his point</STRONG>.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>Yes! How many times have you thought to yourselves, "I
wish they could hear what Tommy is saying." You know? He's so on
the money and at the same time sympathetic and enthusiastic.
