Re: predictions

As one of those who consistently put out high predictions, I thought I'd
explain some of the reasoning--at least my reasoning, don't know about
anyone else's...

Mainly, I set a very high goal because I believe personally in setting high
goals. When I was a kid, for example, I wanted to write comic
books. Everyone else smiled and said, "Get a real job." But that was my
goal. It took a long time, but I made it.

Same with the Celtics. Sure, I know that rationally, they are unlikely to
get such a high percentage of wins with the current coach and team. But I
never pretended my predictions were rational, they're fun! It's my little
way of supporting the team.

Of course, seasons like the last few get annoying, but I think of it as
averaging out from the years when we wiped the floor with the rest of the
NBA. The Celtics have had seasons where they did to the league what the US
Olympic Basketball team generally does to the rest of the planet.

Things balance out, eventually. Yes, this season, and the last few,
haven't been so hot. But that's eventually going to happen. Remember back
in 1978, when Red was about to quit the team because of the antics of the
most incompetent owners in sports history (I heard Phyllis George got
banned from the new building, too.)? A few years later we had Larry and
the gang and we hoisted sweet 16.

Yes, it's tough going. But I'm here for the long term. Think of this as
an extended commercial break where we can refill the munchie bowl.
