Re: How can we make the trade work?

FWIW, didn't Orlando carry something ridiculous like 23 contracts into
last season's training camp? This trade would saddle the Clips with 15 or 16
guaranteed contracts, which admittedly is a lot.

I agree the Clips get the least out of this deal and were probably quick
to kill it. As long as the trade isn't rekindled through the addition of
another Boston draft pick, I'll be happy.

Seriously folks, I'm wondering which pick is rated as more valuable by the
three teams: Boston's own 2001 pick or the Denver pick? Obviously Pitino feels
Boston will make the playoffs, so the Boston pick should be considerably less
valuable to him (to the degree that he cares). Assuming no top-5 lottery
protection, I think it is about even odds the two teams will finish with very
similar records in lotto world. Based on the conference in which they play,
Denver seems to have almost no chance of making the playoffs next year. It is
almost a 100% guaranteed lottery pick.

Denver does have a solid frontcourt with LaFrentz, McDyess and
"Pocketfullof" Posey. The backcourt would be Van Exel, Voshon Lenard and now
Derek Anderson or Tariq. Arguably they have more winning chances next year
than Boston because Van Exel is the only really erratic shot selection guy on
that team while we've got a few.
