Boston vs Atlanta
Date : July 17
Score : 81-79 (Boston)
Notes : Kris Clack hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining in the game, breaking a 79-all tie and giving Boston a two-point win in their first game of the summer league ... Clack finished with 11 points (4-6 FG) and a game high four steals ... Rodney Elliott and Mark Blount both led the team with 15 points ... Jerome Allen played a good game at the point guard position (10 PTS, 5 AST, 4 REB), and Jerome Moiso had a nice game stat-wise (19 MIN, 10 PTS, 7 REB, 3 BLK) ... Tony Battie did not play in this game; he may get some minutes later in the week, after Moiso leaves for a personal commitment (wedding in France) ... MC was kind enough to mail in an on-site report on the first day of the Shaw's Pro Summer League :
"Moiso has very little to no offence at all; looked like a good rebounder so far, but could be the worst passer in NBA History as he had about 8 turnovers in 15 minutes ... I was pushing for JaRon Rush personally but he really didn't look like he was ready for the NBA quite yet; he took some stupid unnessacary shots and looked kinda lost ... Jerome Allen looked like Isiah Thomas out there, had some GREAT passes and looked way more capable of being a backup then any of the backups we have had in recent years and it's not like he was playing against a nobody, he was guarded by Jason Terry; could be this years Adrian Griffen ... DerMarr Johnson (of Atlanta) has great handle for a 6-10 player but he doesn't drive at all and all he really did was shoot about 8 3's and hit only 2 or 3 ... Desmond Mason (of Seattle) is UNREAL, he had some of the craziest dunks ever!!! Looks like a young Dominique Wilkins and has a soft touch, could be the steal of the Draft ... Shammond Williams (als!
o of Seattle) made everyone look silly out there, a definite future NBA star"!
Boston vs Philadelphia
Date : July 18
Score : 65-71 (Philadelphia)
Notes : This six-point loss to Philly breaks Boston's 15-game winning streak in summer league play (the Celts were a perfect 14-0 last summer) ... The Celtics played brilliant defense in the first quarter, limiting the Sixers to just eight points (3-14 FG), while scoring 16 points (5-17 FG) themselves ... But Philadelphia answered with a 22-7 run (!) in the second quarter, to take a 29-34 lead at halftime ... Boston never had the lead again (although they did tie the score at 57 midway through the fourth) ... Kris Clack led the team with 11 points, while Roberto Bergersen scored ten ... Moiso had another nice night stat-wise (8 PTS, 4-6 FG, 7 REB, 3 BLK), while center Mark Blount also contributed (3 PTS, 5 REB, 4 BLK) ... Blount found out before the game that Boston had come to an agreement with him for a partially guaranteed contract to be in the team's regular training camp this October ... Neither Haywoode Workman (strained his left hamstring during morning practice) or JaR!
on Rush (coach's decision) played tonight ... There were 72 total personal fouls called in this game ... Assistant coach Jim O'Brien (who is coaching in the summer league while Rick Pitino sits on the sidelines and evaluates the talent) received a technical foul in the fourth for arguing with the refs ... For the Sixers, Jumaine Jones had a spectacular performance in the first half (12 PTS, 5-11 FG, 6 REB, 3 dunks), but bumped knees with Moiso early in the third quarter and played little after that. Also, point guard Pepe Sanchez compiled three assists and three steals in just ten minutes during the first half; a couple of those assists were of true "SportsCenter highlight-reel" caliber ... Casper 846 spent the day at the Clark Center, and filed the following report :
"Moiso wasn't half bad. He appeared to be very poised and ran the court extremely well. Fortunately, I don't think he's as skinny as Walter McCarty, as Moiso has at least some muscle in him. However, he has an UGLY jumpshot and relies way too much on his left hook. But, he rebounded well and blocked several shots, so right now, I can't complain ... Kris Clack blocked several shots of his own (ED : I remember one block by Clack where he jumped so high that he got the ball off the top corner of the square on the backboard; WOW!) and he's only listed as 6'5"!!! He reminds me of Adrian Griffin with more 'hops' ... It was good to see Tyus Edney play for Washington - it appears that he hasn't lost a step ... Celtics fans should be very thankful that we never took Soumalia Samake (Nets draft pick) - he's 7 feet tall, is as thin as a pencil and looked completely lost. He is so skinny, he can't set a pick ... The most disappointing fact of the night was that Kenyon Martin refused to si!
gn autographs for the many kids in attendance ... "
