BSG's Take

Bill Simmons - I attended the Celts-Sixers Summer League game last
night and I'm still wiping the crust from my eyes. Boston had its
worst Summer League team that I can remember -- the two "big" point
guards (Allen and Vanterpool) looked terrible and Jerome Moiso looked
like the only NBA-caliber player on the floor. The Herald mentioned
Kris Clack as showing NBA potential, but I can't imagine how another
6-foot-6 guy with no jumpshot would ever help this team. We already
have 19 guys like that.

As for Moiso, he confirmed all of my suspicions: great athlete, very
fluid, nice little jump hook, runs the floor well... and he
disappears for huge chunks at a time. We already have a guy like
that, too (Tony Battie). Moiso should have dominated yesterday's game
and he seemed happy just drifting along and trying hard in little
spurts. You can't rely on athletic ability alone at the NBA level;
you just can't. He's also too scrawny to play anything other than the
4-spot next season, which means he'll be getting a hearty 5-10
minutes per game behind Antoine.

Hey, the pick made no sense last month and it still makes no sense
unless they're dealing Antoine this month, which remains a sincere
possibility. Whatever the case, Moiso won't be helping the Celts next
season, but he does have good garbage time potential. Just what we
wanted from the #11 pick. Somebody shoot me.

By the way, the best part of yesterday's game was seeing Pitino
talking to Nets GM Rod Thorn while Peter Vescey was craning his head
from three seats away to listen in. Hysterically funny. I wish I had
a picture.
