basketball fees

In reference to the cost of basketball!!!
I'm paying about 150 quid to play this year here in Ireland, This figure
includes referees fees, IBA (Irish Basketball Association) registration, Dublin
League registration, insurance and the one that really gets my goat gym
hire!!!!!!!. The majority of my fees goes towards gym hire.....Its so expensive
nowadays to rent a gym or hall for 2 hours in order to play ball, there was a
scheme within Dublin a few years ago where the local council or civic authority
would pay for the gym for a few hours in order to encourage kids to get involved
in sport and keep them off the street, but all they played was indoor soccer
(which is very popular over here) other sports such as basketball or volleyball
had to wait in the wings and take the scraps they were offered towards the end
of the allotted free time. I don't know haw big basketball is in Australia (I
imagine its fighting pretty hard with alot of bigger sports for recognition such
as Rugby Union/league, ausie rules, cricket, soccer and so on) but over here
Basketball is most definitely a second class sport......playing second (more
like third) fiddle to soccer, rugby and Gaelic sports(our own indigeonous sport)
Thats one of the reasons that I subscribe to this list...in order to recieve my
daily intake of basketball talk and discussion. over here (in Ireland) theres
only a few die-hards that want to play/watch and generally be involved in
basketball and for this privilege we have to pay quite a lot of cash!!!!!!!
like they say money makes the world go around!!!!!!!!!!

right I'm finished ranting now about a non-celtics topic....please excuse my
interuption......Celtics and B-Ball forever
