Well, I think the projected depth of the draft makes this a dicier trade. A
lot depends on the immediate improvement you expect. When we made the trade
for Potapenko, I'm guessing that Pitino wasn't predicting that we'd finish
poorly and draft 8th with a chance at Marion. He was probably projecting us
to squeeze into the playoffs. In the same way, how much impact does Bibby
have? Does getting him in midseason push us into the playoffs? If he does,
then I'd say do it. I'm completely against refusing to improve the team (or
even more extremely, tanking) to preserve our draft position, unless we're
talking about adding a guy in his late 30's to patch things up temporarily.

When we were talking about trading for Jermaine O'Neal, we were evidently
offering the pick that became Moiso, Denver's pick, and our pick in 2002,
with us receiving the pick that Portland used to pick Barkley in return. So
maybe we'd offer Denver's pick and our 2002 pick instead. That's probably a
significantly safer trade. Has anyone else been following Jermaine, by the
way? 13.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2.5 bpg (4th in the NBA) in 32 mpg, at age 22. He's
going to be a beast. I really wish that trade had gone through.
