Kenny Anderson believes the absence of Ron Mercer is going to help his
game. Anderson says he'll have more responsibility this season. What he
really needs to do is get in shape, be more of a distributor and try to
co-exist with coach Rick Pitino, who left him home for a game last season
as a disciplinary matter. The Anderson/Pitino relationship is a tough one
because the coach demands his players to be in great shape and play tough
defense. Anderson has been injured during his time in Boston and never
will be a candidate for the All-Defensive team. Stay tuned.
      PLAYER ANALYSIS
The Celtics like Danny Fortson for his toughness and rebounding. He is
strong, has great hands and goes after the ball. The downside is that he
has slow feet and trouble on defense, especially on lateral moves. But
Fortson's rebounding should keep him on the floor, which is where he wants
      to be.
      WHAT'S NEXT
The Celtics aren't likely to do much until they open training camp during
the first week of October. They have 15 players on their roster, and
Pitino isn't generally inclined to bring in so-called "camp players" to
increase the numbers. He'll have enough on his hands to get the players to
learn his defensive rotations and endure his brutal conditioning drills.
