Glad to see the talk is still all about winning.

Anderson holds key to success

By Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff, 11/12/99

WALTHAM - The Celtics seemed to be pointed in the right direction before the
final quarter of Wednesday's game against Detroit. Now, Kenny Anderson wants
to reestablish the team's sense of propriety and purpose.

Anderson, who suffered a hip pointer after a collision with Grant Hill,
practiced only briefly yesterday but expects to start against New York
tonight.

After Anderson departed in the second quarter against the Pistons, the
Celtics struggled. They were outscored, 36-18, in the fourth quarter of a
110-92 defeat.

''The last time I fell like that I broke my wrist, in 1993,'' Anderson said
about the collision Wednesday. ''It happens quick. You look at it in slow
motion and it looks harder than it really is. But nothing is broken. It's a
matter of how much pain I can take and if I can be myself out there.

''I really wanted to win the game and be out there for the team. I couldn't
be myself, I couldn't be aggressive and penetrate, be speedy, and take
advantage of the new rules.

''I don't want to be injured and sit out two games. It's not only what I can
do offensively. I want to be able to move and not be a liability for my
teammates defensively.''

The Celtics will be seeking to regain some momentum after two successive
defeats.

''Detroit was 0-4 when they came here and they were starving,'' Anderson
said. ''They had not had a meal in days and they saw that fat ham sitting
there. That was the worst game we have played, but we still competed.

''We had a bad game. We didn't have that same spark. But you have to stay
upbeat, always stay above water. I don't want to slide, lose three or four
games in a row, because every game is so tough and you never know when your
next win is going to come. I wanted to have a winning record in November,
and it will be tough, but we can still do it.''
