Re: Turner gone?

Nice addition, a 30 year old, with stats worse than a one armed man. Will someone explain this deal? Is he related to Pitino?

Celtics sign G Doug Overton; waive G Wayne Turner

BOSTON (TICKER) -- Guard <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4/427/>Doug Overton continues his tour of Atlantic Division teams, today signing with the <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/bos/>Boston Celtics.

Overton, a seven-year veteran, was with the <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/phi/>Philadelphia 76ers in the preseason before being released on October 28. He played with the <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/orl/>Orlando Magic, <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/njn/>New Jersey Nets and <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/phi/>Philadelphia 76ers -- all Atlantic Division clubs -- during the 1998-99 season and averaged 3.8 points in 24 games.

The Celtics waived rookie guard Wayne Turner, who played for Boston coach Rick Pitino at Kentucky, to make room for Overton on the roster.

Originally drafted by the <http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/det/>Detroit Pistons in 1991, Overton saw his first action as a rookie with Washington -- an Atlantic Division team -- during the 1992-93 season. He had his best year as a member of the-then Bullets when he appeared in 82 games and averaged 7.0 points and 3.0 assists during the 1994-95 campaign.

Overton, 30, has played in 351 games with five NBA teams and owns career averages of 4.9 points and 2.2 assists.

Turner, 23, appeared in three games with the Celtics and averaged 1.3 points and 1.7 assists in 41 minutes. He was signed as a rookie free agent on August 3 after competing on both of the Celtics' summer league teams.

As a member of the Kentucky Wildcats, Turner set an NCAA record for games played (151) and was a part of two national championship teams.
