So Pitino shouldn't reward Battie for playing well but should punish 
Walker for not? That's not really consistent either. In terms of how
Pitino treats them, he probably has a better idea of the personalities
of the players and how they'll react to these things. 

After the game, Pitino mentioned that things were difficult because of
the attitude of negativity (in the fans and the media, I assume). 
He mentioned how it was making his players tentative and hesitate to
shoot even when they had open shots.

Pitino has been pretty consistent in not benching his starters for
missing shots, and that includes Mercer and Pierce. And Mercer has
had some pretty horrific shooting nights. Pierce had his 0-11 night
too.
