Miller and Terry scouting comparisons

Andre Miller, Utah

Preseason, Miller was <Picture: Andre Miller>lauded as the best senior point guard in the land. Now finished playing, the lofty status appears to be well substantiated by his play. Unlike the more explosive Steve Francis. Andre Miller is a natural born floor leader. The best attribute of his game is that he makes those playing alongside him so much better. A steady leader who takes perhaps as much pride in an assist as a basket, Miller runs the offense like a coach on the floor. While ball distribution is among his best skills, he can and will become an offensive force if called upon. A solid perimeter game and a good open floor player, Miller can also penetrate, create his own shot and take his man off the dribble. If you are looking for an explosive, highlight film point guard, select Steve Francis. If you want a floor manager who behaves with maturity and unselfishness, then Miller is your point guard. Expect this Goodwill Games veteran to be selected between 2nd and 10th.

Report

*Possibly the best point guard in the country*Understands the game, plays with the maturity, thinks the game a step ahead of everyone else*Intelligent, alert, a coach's dream*Excellent penetrator; though he doesn't always look all that fast, he has a second gear of speed that comes out of nowhere, allowing him to blow by defenders*Powerful leaper dunks the ball with ease*In the open court, he makes great reads and uses different finishing angles accordingly*Great hesitation dribble*High release point on runners and putbacks, so even when he is in traffic, he averts the problems that a lack of height might present*Beautiful finger roll*Outside shooting is his greatest, and perhaps only, weakness*However, it is a serious weakness*An average long range shooter at best*Playmaking skills are superb*Great awareness of the flow of the game and where his teammates are on the court at all times*Rebounding skills are unparalleled for a point guard*Considering his height, he is extremely effective*Awesome defender, ca

MY QUESTION -- HE'S A FLOOR LEADER, BUT CAN HE PUSH THE BALL? UTAH HAS A HALF-COURT GAME EVEN BY COLLEGE STANDARDS

Jason Terry, Utah

The best defensive point <Picture: Jason Terry>guard available this year, Jason Terry has emerged from behind the shadows of Mike Bibby and Miles Simon to have an outstanding senior season. Selected by Basketball Times as its national player of the year,Terry demonstrated all the skills necessary to play at the next level. A complete player, Terry combines good floor leadership with a solid offensive game. Defensively he may be the top overall defender available in this draft regardless of position. When Terry is on the floor, everyone out there with him automatically becomes a better player - he brings out the best in his teammates. While some scouts and GM's offer up conflicting opinions about how Terry will fare in the NBA, those who are Terry detractors question if his body can handle the rigors of an NBA campaign, while his boosters expect a prime time player. Terry could be selected as high as 5th or as late as 14th.

*One of the best players in the nation*Had a breakout senior season, largely due to a change in role that was cast upon him as a result of Miles Simon, Michael Dickerson, and Mike Bibby all leaving school*Has never stopped improving his game*His handle is smooth and he has no trouble manufacturing his own shots*Has a tremendous first step on drives and he does a good job of making decisions once he draws the defense in the lane*He will either kick the ball out to spot up shooters or knife through traffic and get off clean shots*Possesses a beautiful running floater and also has a quick release off the dribble that is nearly impossible to bother*His long range shooting skills are gorgeous*He has a well developed pull up jumper in which he gets tremendous lift off the ground and he does a good job of releasing the ball at the highest point of elevation*He also gets to the free throw line frequently, partly because he does a good job of initiating contact*As a distributor, he makes some eyebrow raising passes,
