NBAtalk.com RUMOR MILL
Celtics Still Trying to Acquire Baker It looked like the Baker for Walker
deal was dead when the Sonics cringed at the idea of adding Antoine Walker
to their roster. But according to the Sporting News and Peter May of the
Boston Globe the Celtics have discussed obtaining Vin Baker in a three-way
deal that would most likely include Chicago and, possibly, Pervis Ellison,
as well as Antoine Walker going to the Bulls. According to NBAtalk sources,
the Sonics might consider the deal if they could get their hands on Toni
Kukoc. Everyone on the Celtics roster except Pierce is available for the
right price. Of course, cap complications might make such a deal impossible

Although Vin Baker remains a priority for the Sonics in the free-agent
signing period, his worth may be dwindling. He is reportedly still a few
pounds overweight, even though he is playing with the U.S. team at an
Olympic qualifier in Puerto Rico. "He's only getting about 15 minutes per
game," said Sonics GM Wally Walker, who spent some time in Puerto Rico
watching Baker and Gary Payton. "He'd probably be better off working out on
his own." Baker has expressed an interest in playing on the East Coast, but
no one can come close to matching what the Sonics can pay for his services.
The Sonics will only do a sign-and-trade if it makes sense, and they've made
it clear that a Baker for Walker trade makes no sense to them.

VINNY TO BOSTON STILL ALIVE- Sources in Seattle say that Wally Walker is
stepping back from his comments about no sign and trade for Vin Baker.
Walker said that a number of teams have presented offers to him, and that he
is now considering options if Vin were to indicate to him that he wants to
leave. The Boston Celtics have contacted the Chicago Bulls in the last week
to see if they would consider a 3 way deal thast could include Antoine
Walker, although my Boston sources say it is more likey to be Ron Mercer and
Pervis Ellison, than the reported Ellison, Walker package. The deal would
send Mercer and Ellison to Chicago, Toni Kukoc would then go to Seattle,
with Vin Baker coming to Boston. I had heard as many as 3 Celtics could be
headed out if a deal can be made, you could also see Dana Barros thrown into
the deal for Seattle. This is an unconfirmed rumor, given to me through
sources close to, but not in any of the teams. More as I get it.
