FW: Predictions

Hey folks,

My particular opinion on Pitino's predictions is that if they don't predict
the
playoffs, then who the hell is going to follow them. Clippers and
Wizards players set up their tee times two days after the regular season
each year but you always hear "Our intention is to make the playoffs...
nothing is more important than that." Except that 12 million dollar
contract, eh Juwan?

Nobody is going to tell the media at the beginning of the season, "well,
we suck... I've already packed my stuff because I don't expect to be
coaching here after the All-Star game. Nobody gets along and the only
way everybody on the floor gets the ball is if you put five of them out
there... and then nobody can put it in the hole." How many season
tickets does that sell?

I think Pitino is doing what everyone else does... sugar coats it. As
far as the Duncan/Van Horn statement, I thought they'd be in green...
sniff... well, I take Pierce to be the NBA apologizing to us.

I think this is one of those statements that gives Rick his reputation.
 It
is simply false.  He was making promises during last year's March swoon
that
the Celtics would be in the playoffs this coming year.  Of course as
soon as
he said it, I knew it wouldn't take him long to back off of it.  And,
sure
enough, a week or two later I heard him phrasing it as "in the third or
fourth year".  Now, some of you get really irritated by this trait of
his.
I feel like I've learned to interpret what he says into what he means.
 For
instance, when he makes a promise about making the playoffs, I take that
to
mean they are going to have that as a goal, try very hard to achieve it
and
be very disappointed if they don't.  I think you have to listen to Rick
Pitino in the same way you listen to, say, a politician.
