In Defense of David

This entire argument is goofy, but I will say that I was not being
sarcastic in my original post to Paul M., nor do I think that this
David person was wrong to impute age and bitterness to Paul.  To say,
a few days after we have signed our franchise player for six years and
based our future on him, that you hate him and want him to be traded
to the lakers because he was rough in practice is not "sarcastic" but
merely mean-spirited and perverse.  I can't ever remember a young
person saying something like that, and in fact it reminds me of
nothing so much as Bob Ryan's (considerably more substantial) polemics
in the Globe.  Paul seems to me to be sinking into self-parody,
appointing himself as the official curmudgeon or something.  I don't
want to read anti-celtics stuff on this list -- e.g. what a bad player
walker is, how Pitino can't coach, etc. etc.  Most of the people on
this list are sane and civil and guardely optimistic, from Gene to
Dorine, to Warwick down under.  Paul, do us all a favor and save that
fraudulent venom for the usenet where it belongs.
