no tribute to rodman

At least, we're not hearing much about "the greatest rebounder of all
time" any more. ESPN and others have been reminding us of the stats
of Chamberlain and Russell which squelch any thought that Rodman was
in their class.

And, his great athletic ability was matched by his disregard for the
integrity of the game. No one, not even Lambeer, pushed and shoved
and tripped and held and provoked fights like Dennis. Great players
respect the game, they push the limits perhaps, but they don't gain
advantage by outright thuggery on the court. Dennis helped Jordan win
his titles. But basketball people know the difference between him and
the great ones.

By the way, I saw some film on Cousy last week. I suggest that clips
of Couz and Larry and Russ (and Dr. J and Magic and Maravich) be shown
beside those of Michael. Then, even on an individual talent level,
firgure out how one can be judged better than the others.

Enough. Gene
