Re: ESPN members?

Here are some key points of the article:

** Some GM's complain about the outright disregard or rampant skirting
of the rules of some team executives, and yet not being reprimanded by
the Commish.

1. Karl Malone's sudden turnaround re: his desire to be traded. There
are rumors that there was an under the table agreement between him and
Larry Miller. $ 77M for 5 years extension.

<cut and paste>
says one GM:

"If you want to give Karl special treatment because he
has been in the league a
while, then grandfather in the rule and say this group
of guys is going to get
special treatment. But don't act like nothing is
happening."

2. Stan Kasten of the Hawks was upset since the Knicks were allowed to
hold talks with Spree prior to the trade.

3. Colangelo admits that he contacted McDyess during the lockout since
he couldnt get hold of his agent. It was also reported that the reason
why Dyess fired Tellem as his agent was because he didnt like the fact
that Tellem and Colangelo had already reached an agreement for a
contract extension as early as last season, but it wasnt reported to
him.

4. The Lakers being allowed to talk about contract renewal with Glen
Rice even though no trade has been consumated.

5. Knicks Dave Checketts was not fined by Stern during the lockout even
though he voiced out his opinion re: the matter.

"Just because it's New York, L.A., and Colangelo has
been in the league a
long time, they let them do whatever they want," said
a source in the West. "I
wish I could cheat like some of those other teams
cheat."

6. Williamson's wink wink deal with the Kings. Agreeing to a $ 500K
this year for a windfall next year.

"Whatever it takes to get them to stop," one executive
said. "They are not
playing by the same rules as everybody else. Everybody
should play by the
                  same rules."

Overall, the article stresses that there is no honor among thieves :)
