Notes from the Globe

"Indiana Pacers president Donnie Walsh confirmed that the teams have had
conversations about a trade. The Pacers would like to acquire Antoine Walker;
the Celtics would most likely be looking for 6-foot-11-inch forward Dale Davis
and draft picks in return."

This deal goes down, I'm outta here. Trade Antoine if you must, but Dale Davis
is 100 years old. Where does he play with Fortson and Vitaly on board? Draft
picks? Please. I wouldn't do Jalen Rose for Walker either.

Holley also raised an interesting point: The Nugs can afford to pay Ron what
he wants because they have a new "billionaire owner." Gaston, meanwhile, got
Denver to throw in $3 million of William's salary along with the trade. That
is penny ante thinking. What's next, Gaston threatens to move the team to
Hartford? Bill Gates has Boston connections, maybe he can buy the team from Ebenezer.

Mercer's agent said the Celts were offering less than some bench players on
the team makes. Don't know who he was referring to -- Dana makes about $3.5
mil a year, Minor $2.1 and Pervis $2 mil -- I wonder if he was exaggerating?
If not, that seems pretty mind-boggling.

Williams sounds glad to be back and like he has no problems with Pitino.

Bob Ryan sounds ecstatic about the trade wile simulateously being pessimistic
about the team's future. The man has a gift.

Pitino's comment about Wayne Turner is also telling about the Mercer trade:
"We had an offensive agenda too much last season. I think we should all expect
to see Mercer lighting it up for 18-20 ppg next year. Still, if he couldn't
coexist with Pierce and Walker, it's irrelevant. The best teams are less about
talent and more about chemistry -- just look at Utah's bench, or the
Jordan-era Bulls'.
