Basketball Jones
"Kenny Anderson had an MRI yesterday that revealed what the club suspected: He
has a
slight tear in his right hamstring.
That prompted Rick Pitino to ask the league to give the
Celtics a waiver for a fourth spot on the injured list.
If that is
granted, Pitino will sign Damon Jones, who had a cup of
coffee with the Nets, to a 10-day contract. Pitino said
he talked to
ex-Nets coach John Calipari, who gave Jones an
endorsement."
I recall someone on this list saying Jones played well against the Celtics
earlier this season. Details? His numbers in the 2 games he played against us
aren't anything to brag about, but that's not necessarily the whole picture.
ESPN says: "In his first season out of Houston, Jones played in 11 games and
averaged 4.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists [this year]. He was signed
out of the CBA the week before [Lucious] Harris went down."
He's listed at 6'3, 195. With Jersey he played almost 12 mpg, shot 32% (ouch!)
but a not-bad 34% on treys (and 86% from the line). He had .5 TO/G and .6 SPG.
Sounds a lot like Marlon Garnett to me, although his numbers are better.
PS: I wonder where Pitino found Calipari? "Hey John, when you're finished
waxing my Benz come up here for a minute." ;)
