Armchair GM

How about:

Kenny Anderson and Tony Battie to the Knicks for Marcus Camby and Chris
Childs?

I am no Childs fan. It almost pains me to take him. But he does play
better defense than Kenny, and his 3 remaining contract years are a lot
cheaper than Kenny's 4. I like Camby's upside better than Battie's.
Camby seems to be buried and lost in what passes for a system they have
in NYC. He might flourish playing alongside a versatile,
offensive-minded forward and a wide-bodied banger of a center. If he
does, that $40M contract extension he signed could end up looking
pretty cheap.

My main motivation for suggesting this trade is dumping Anderson.
Perhaps his one-dimensional penetration would be more effective if the
refs were to give him some "love" (KENNY, IS THIS JUST A CONTINUATION
OF THE EXTENDED SEX METAPHOR? IF SO, WILL SOMEONE PLEASE PRESCRIBE HIM
SOME VIAGRA?), or at least a fair shake more often than not. But the
bottom line is that it's not working. With Pierce, Mercer and Walker
as viable scoring options, the Celtics need a point guard who will move
the ball across the time line quickly, make a decision and set up those
guys in positions where they can score. It ain't rocket science.

As for Kenny's defense, I'm still waiting for him to play some. I hope
he enjoyed watching Marbury drive to the hoop as much as the Nets'
broadcasters did last Sunday. I can understand Kenny's reluctance to
give the hard foul on the layup (arguably, Kenny was never the same
player after he fractured his wrist, courtesy of a John Starks cheap
shot on a drive to the hoop). However, his overall lack of effort
defensively is appalling. Let's get Wayne Turner. Let's get Ricky
Moore. Let's let Chris Wallace earn his friggin' money and find some
unknown who can play a constructive role at the 1. But please trade
Kenny. He's making me long for the Sherman Douglas era, which I didn't
think was possible.

Unfortunately, I fear that only Ernie Grunfeld is stupid enough to bite
on an Anderson trade, which means taking back a Childs or a Ward.
