Re: Tim Duncan
Thanks, Mishra, although I was more interested in hearing if Paul was
able to put a constructive thought together than anything else.
As far as my "disasterous" offer for Antoine, 12 million average over 7
years is, what, 84 million? Name a player who has signed a larger
contract who you do not believe is overpaid. I doubt you will find one
who's won a championship. Hakeem, maybe (don't know what his contract
is), but he certainly paid his dues first.
The Bulls got where they are by locking up Pippen which allowed them to
focus on Jordan. Everyone else who pays a huge contract ends up losing
some other important player. How will the Celtics be any different?
Curious you name Utah as the other team that has been able to get
players who stay for less money than they could get elsewhere. I
suppose you think it's a coincidence that they are the second best team
in the league. I would go so far as to say, with the current salary cap
stucture and salaries of the top players, the only way to build a
dominant team is for some of the key players to sacrifice for the team.
I guess you expect that to be Mercer and Pierce instead of Antoine. Or,
do you see them making over 10 million too?
I'd like to see the Celtics wait as long as they can before signing all
of these players, only because they are all young and you don't really
know what they are capable of. Of course Antoine has been quoted as
saying that if the Celtics have a chance to sign him this year and
don't, he probably won't stay with them. And, for everyone who always
claims that he never really says anything bad, we are just imagining it,
this was reported in both local papers to have passed through his own
lips. So the Celtics may feel that it is now or never.
As far as RP and rumors, I would have thought that by now you would have
learned that you can't believe anything you read in the papers about
what he is planning to do. He probably has told reporters that he
really likes Mashburn, but then he really likes to throw up smoke
screens too.
