"Playing on the belief that the union's rank and file has not been completely
advised of what is on the table, Stern and Granik said that teams, previously
prohibited from speaking with their players about the collective bargaining
situation, will now be allowed to answer the questions of players they say are
calling for information."
This apparently all came about because Stern and the owners believe: "'... with
good reason that agents for the players who would be most affected by the high-
end limitation have begun a campaign to defeat a fair deal... Their view is
that no matter how good the deal for 400 players, it won't be allowed to fly if
the top 30 can't have the ability to receive unlimited amounts.'"
