Geiger Rumors Swirl

Steve Bulpett who writes for the Boston Herald (soon to be online I've been
told)wrote and article yesterday entitled "Geiger Rumors Swirl." Here is a
little bit of what he wrote: "The Matt Geiger tale out of Charlotte-that
the 7foot 1 center is sitting out playoff games to avoid further injury and
jeopardize an agreed-upon free agent deal with the Celtics-has created
plenty of controversy, but it makes little sense for Rick Pitino & Co.
Geiger, who grew up in Massachusetts, has been sidelined with a pulled
right hamstring, though head coach Dave Cowens and the Hornets team doctor
have cast aspersions on the severity of the injury. Geiger did not play in
the Hornets 91-82 series-clinching win over Atlanta last night, but he may
return for the conference semifinals against the Chicago Bulls.

Regardless of Geiger's condition, believing the C's have a done deal for
the Geiogia Tech product presupposes the team is stupid. First of all, it
would be tampering with somebody currently under contact with another team,
soomething the NBA doesn't book too kindly upon. And considering the
likelihood of a lockut beginning July1-the opening of the fee agent season-
the Celtics couldn't officially complete a deal until a new collective
bargaining agreement is set anyway."

I find this interesting. The Celtics may not have a done deal prearranged
but they very well may have talked to Falk about what it might take to get
the deal done. Don't forget Falk represents both Walker and Anderson and
Pitino might very well have done Falk a favor by bailing him out of the
Toronto mess. So it's not like there hasn't been contact with Falk. As far
as bringing him to Boston is concerned I seem to remember Parish being
labeled lazy and not a team player and DJ being tagged as a head case. Well
they seemed to have worked out OK. I'm not comparing Geiger the player to
these Celtic greats but their situations before arriving in Boston seem
similar. If Pitino does have interest you better believe he would read
Geiger the riot act before he would be allowed to put on Celtic green.
