Re: Re:PeterMay

Gotta agree with Gregg on this one.  Andrew DeClercq (DQ) hustles as much as anyone in the league, and would be a welcome addition to any team, if for no other reason than to save a star player, like Baker or Duncan, from foul trouble.  He has been sizzling from the line lately, and if he ever does develop an inside jumper, he'll average 10 ppg.  He is far more than any stiff, try-hard kid, but it's easy to see that you, Jo, are not a frequent viewer of C's games this year.

Baker is a power forward, like the Mailman, not a center.  But lives with the curse of being talented enough to play both.

I'm curious to know how many Celtics games you've seen this year.  I've seen 'em all with a few exceptions, and I have to say that I think Andrew DeClerq is a solid player.  Admittedly, he's kind of a raw talent and does not have great skills.  He always hustles, however, and is improving all the time IMO.  His numbers may not be great, but he works real hard and he definitely contributes to this team.  He's certainly one of my favorite players.  As for Greg Minor, he's been playing very well of late.  Both these guys have been starting for the Celtics on a regular basis.  If they were truly such borderline players, why would Coach Pitino be giving them as many minutes as he does?

Hi:

In case you missed it, Peter May lobbies in the 8 March Sunday Globe for Andrew DeClercq to be selected to this Summer's Team USA (Dream Team). I reread the passage several times, convinced he must be joking. It reads:

"Ten players already have been chosen for the [World Championship] tournament, which is in Athens in late July and early August. Two more will be selected next month. You can be certain Tim Duncan will be one; there is no legit center on the roster (Vin Baker and Chris Webber come the closest). The other also will be from the NBA. Andrew DeClercq is available and is only a jump shot away from being a great player ."

Geez ! It's lame enough that he lists Vin Baker as a backup center. Can anyone explain what's going on?  Josh?

IMO, DeClercq is just another stiff, try-hard, weight-room white kid with average hands and no hops.   He is Joe Kleine Jr.

IMO also, the most miraculous aspect of our '97-98 Celts is that they win despite having two starters (DeClercq and Minor) who might not even be 12th men on about one-third of the other NBA teams.  Grazie Ricardo Pittino !!

P.S.  Oops, I think Joe Kleine actually played on Bob Knight's 1984 Olympic Gold Medal team, although so did Steve Alford...
