Steve Bulpett: Pitino Willing To Blow The Celtics Up

Steve Bulpett has the following in today's Boston Herald:

"Two weeks ago, the Celtics didn't figure to have any picks in tonight's NBA
draft. Now it appears they may have two in the first round.

"After Rick Pitino said he'd probably trade the No. 10 pick, the club has
apparently altered its stance to the point at which sources last night said the
C's were angling for another selection in the early teens to perhaps take a
flyer on someone such as Slovenian 7-footer Radoslav Nesterovic. Orlando and
Houston, both with multiple picks, were said to be the main targets."

"But, according to league sources, the Celtics won't necessarily stop there if
a decent deal presents itself today. If nothing else is clear in this murkiest
of drafts, it is that the Celtics are willing to be very open. There is no one
on the Celtics roster deemed untouchable by Pitino and Co. While Antoine
Walker (because of his contractual situation) has been discussed, sources say
teams have also been looking for Ron Mercer (Vancouver was interested in a
package for the No. 2 pick).

"'I'll say this for Pitino, he's not afraid.' another team executive said.
'He's been asking for a lot, but it looks like he's willing to blow that team
up if he can get what he wants.'"

In other news, the C's have added Lester Conner as their third coach.
