Peter May: Celtics Turned Down On Walker Deal

Peter May in his June 20th Sporting News Celtics Report says,
there are "reports that the Celtics are shopping Walker and that they made
at least one offer including Walker to move up in the draft, an offer that
was rejected because it included too many contract-heavy players."

May goes on to note that their are two problems interfering with the Celtics
ability to re-sign Antoine and thus his presence in trade talks: "Owner Paul
Gaston is one of the two owners who didn't want to re-open the Collective
Bargaining Agreement because he thinks colleagues should take harder stands on
salaries. He's not expected to open the vault.

"The other is that Walker isn't that good. As one NBA executive put it
recently, 'the reason that the owners voted to re-open is because you have
players like Antoine Walker talking about making $100 million.'"
