Bulpett: Geiger Lowers Demands And Pervis Hurting
According to Steve Bulpett in today's Boston Herald, Matt Geiger "has
reportedly lowered his asking price from $10 million a year for seven years
to $7 million a year for the same period.
"'We don't have 7 million,' said Celtic coach and president Rick Pitino. 'But
he's on the list of people we're looking at.'
"Geiger, who once lived in Salem, is a mobile center who'd fit well into
Pitino's system. But his stock slipped near the end of the season and it would
be difficult for the Celts to take a large salary cap hit on him."
As far as the Pervis Ellison situation is concerned, the ankle that he injured
at the beginning of the year is still bothering him, and he's not playing any
basketball in the off season. As Pitino tells it: "'He's working out seriously
with the weights, but the problem Pervis is always going to have is that he
doesn't play basketball in the offseason (sic)... If he was playing a full
season, then the rest would be good for him. But if you're not playing much in
the regular season and you don't play in the summer, it's hard to be in the
right shape for the game and for what your body has to take...'"
Unfortunately, the C's are on the books for two more years of Pervis' labor at
$2.42 and $2.75 million.
