Mike Fine: Celtics Should Get What They Can For Walker
As here's Mike Fine's article via The New Bedford Standard Times:
"Word is filtering out of Chicago that Celtics forward Antoine Walker is being
shopped around.
"It makes sense.
"There is plenty of upside to the second-year forward, who is strong, can run,
pass and rebound. The downside, probably outweighs the cost of keeping him...
"Walker is asking for about $105 million for a six-year extension. That would
be a foolish deal for the Celtics. President Rick Pitino said he won't hold up
the franchise for a ridiculous contract, and apparently, he's serious.
"Walker, although he was an all-star last season, has enough holes that he's
not worth anywhere near the money.
"Why?
"Once Kenny Anderson arrived in February, Walker's passing game completely shut
down.
"He's a poor outside shooter, who hovered under .400 much of the season,
finally finishing up at .423.
"His shot selection is atrocious, concentrating on long-distance jumpers.
"He's an embarrassment on the court, whining about every call, disrupting his
team's flow in a game.
"He's the worst free-throw shooter this side of Dennis Rodman and Chris Dudley.
having finished at .645 after a late-season surge...."
