at the time, the trade wasn't a bad one; both Kleine and Pickney were needed
more that Ainge, who at that time was not a savior; the celtics were a
veteran team needing help on the boards and a backup center; Bird was
injured for all the '89 season and Mchale was having an off year; the chief
was marvelous that season and Reggie was starting to develop his abilities
(I still remember Tommy H. saying "The Celtics have found a player" after
the C's beat the Lakers on a home game and Reggie had 22 points (a career
high at the time) I'm not saying Pinckey and Kleine were saviors, but I've
always think that they helped a lot more than Ainge (especially on the '91
season) One of the reasons the C's touch bottom last season (aside from ML
stupid moves) was being loyal to players like Mcahale and Parish by not
trading them from young value.
