ML, Ellison, Anderson

Forgetting about the propriety of even joking about lynching a black man
who grew up in the Deep South in the 50s and 60s, why shouldn't ML get
some credit for #17 if Antoine and Ron are part of it? If ML hadn't
made that deal with Dallas, we'd have Montross and Samaki Walker. For
that alone, we owe the man some thanks -- even if he was the worst NBA
coach this side of Dick Vitale.

Re: Pervis: Does anyone out there happen to know the C's won-lost
record during the Ellison Era (i) in games Pervis plays vs (ii) in
games Pervis sits? I recognize that the guy is unbelievably injury
prone, but it seems like good things happen whenever he is in the lineup
(even if it doesn't always show up in the box score).

Re: Kenny: I hope I'm wrong about this trade. I have been down on
Anderson ever since his sophomore (and final) year at Georgia Tech, in
which he whined about how hard the college game was on him and how
homesick he was. I didn't think he had the mental toughness to succeed
in the NBA then; nothing he did throughout his years in NJ changed my
mind. To be fair, I never saw him play as a Blazer and I'm encouraged
that he was able to get alone with Carlesimo (after that, Pitino should
be a piece of cake). I am hoping that Kenny has matured, that he can
lead the team and that he can make the commitment to give his all at
both ends of the court. If that's the case, then I will happily defer
to the Coach on this one.

For now, I stand firmly with Cecil. I hate to give up on a
tremendous talent like Chauncey Billups before his 22nd birthday,
particularly since he had such a positive attitude and strong work
ethic. I will miss John Thomas -- another solid (and I do mean SOLID)
citizen. Finally, although it was clearly time for him to move on, I
share Dan Shaughnessy's sentiments about Dee Brown -- the last link to
the Big Three and Reggie (I'm sure Dorine agrees with me that it would
have been better for Rick Fox to maintain that distinction). To all 3
(especially if any of them secretly read this list) -- thank you for
being good Celtics, and best of luck in your NBA careers (when you're
not playing against our boys, that is).
