I think even the use of the word franchise player is indicative of what is
wrong with the game.  There IS a word for the most important, most
infuential or best player on a team, it's called captain.  
If this franchise player thing comes into being every second best player on
a team will be constantly looking to become another teams franchise player
to make more money.  It is one more step along the road of turning a great
team sport into a one-on-one, I'm the best so give me the ball, sport.
