RE: The Boston Celtics Mailing List Digest V5 #298

I say it's certainly something to consider. On Hoops say he's signed
through 2003. His numbers got better steadily until last year when he
was moved back to the bench. He's got good block numbers, but his
shooting percentage is pretty lousy for a center. Trading Knight would
be great, if you're getting a starting center in return. I'd much
rather have DeClerq coming off the bench to bust his ass (and a couple
others) than Travis.

I think this is where Pitino has to prove his worth. For the Celtics to
get to the mountain top (say hallelujah, brother) they will need some
veterans to go along with the youngsters. Thinking back to the '80s,
they got those by acquiring solid players with some baggage. They come
cheaper that way, but how do you find the right ones? Will Kenny and
Geiger or Campell be diamonds in the rough like Parrish and DJ? For
Pitino to earn his bucks, he's not only got to find these gems amongst
the rubble, but he's got to motivate them. I think he's the right man
for the job.
