Walker extension

The idea of not even offering Walker an extension, as May suggests, is
insane. It allows the very real possibility of losing Walker with absolutely
no compensation which would be devastating. The Celtics will do the smart
thing and offer as much money as Gaston will pay. If he doesn't accept
the extension, they will either have to trade him or sell the team to someone
who will pay him.

Even if you doubt whether Walker is going to be an NBA MVP-level talent,
he still has to be signed (if Gaston is willing to pay). The Celtics wouldn't
get that sort of talent (say, Duncan) for him in a trade and they won't
have the cap room to go after a premier player for the forseeable future,
even if they let Antoine go. It's not a choice between offering Walker a huge
contract or getting some other franchise player. It's really a choice between
offering Walker a huge contract or letting him walk away for almost nothing.
