I agree with Kevin about playing above your potential and hitting the skids
in the playoffs. I remember that long string of Bear Bryant teams at
Alabama that went l0-0 or 9-l but lost bowl games almost every year.
That only proved what a great coach he was, from one view. Pitino
may have the same problem to some extent, but for a few years we
don't expect to win the semis anyway.
I respect Briscoe's jettisoning of McDyess more than McHale's signing of
Garnett. Of course, GM's have to support the man writing the checks,
but I think Marbury is more vital to a championship at Minnesota. What
will they do with his demands next year? Owners pretty well get what
they deserve.

P.S. I do have serious metaphysical concerns about a twenty year old
who can go out and buy Wisconsin, but I'll save you the moralisms. I'd
rather my son make 50K.
