Re: I think the C's take Foyle at #3

Actually, most reports I've read list events like the Desert Classic as
not very helpful for big men. The camps are guard oriented, in that
little structured offense is run, and big men struggle to get the ball.
Moreover, as I said before, most agents recommend anyone already projected
as a lottery pick to avoid the small camps, because at best you hold your
own position or move up a spot or two, but if some unknown star shows you
up, you risk having the scouts assume you are worse than advertised rather
than the unknown being a new find.

Seriusly, try and find a player in the past 5 years (especially a big man)
who was already ranked in the top 8 who went to a small camp. The private
workouts are the bread and butter for these players. Guards trying to
break into the first round or raise their stock in the first round are the
big favorites at the camps, as are the quick forwards.

As to Foyle not playing against top competition...

Last year he played against Syracuse and Indiana. In those two games he
averaged 15 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 5 assists per game!!! In
the IU game, he faced a 7' starter and two 6'11 reserves. They also
played several teams that made the NCAA (like Fairfield) and Foyle had
bigger numbers.

The previous year, I read a report that listed Colgates pre confernce
schedule in the top 20. They're oponents included Syracuse, Georgetown,
Iowa, and a few other major schools. Throughout that stretch, though only
a sophomore, Foyle was able to average a double-double.

He has not had the exposure other players have, and he has not played
basketball as long as most of the lottery picks have, but he is most
likely the best athelete in the draft as well as being a legitiamte
center. That is hard to pass up.
