i ma pretty pleased with the draft and very happy that the Pippen trade did not
go through. I saw Billups in person at teh NCAA games in Winston-Salem. He looked
VERY good in the first game against Indiana. He hit everything in sight and scored
something like 30 pts. In the 2nd game against UNC he had a very mediocre game scoring
something like 12 pts on 3 of 18 shooting. He is very gifted physically, can shoot,
drive and handle. I did not see him as you typical point gurad buyt more of a 2, IMO.
Mercer I saw for the first time as a rising junior in HS at the AAU national championships
in W-S a few years back. He was awesome then and is still outstanding. He can shoot,
drive and finish. Can he play D? I guess we will see, but if anyone knows, it is Pitino.
We know have a nucleus of physically talented young players in Billups, Walker and Mercer.
I think this is an excellent foundation. Any (or all) of the 3 could develop into NBA
all stars. The place where we are obviously still lacking is at center. I don't see the talk
about McDyess since I don't see him as a center but another skinny power forward. I am not sure
there is a center out there but I would rather hold off and wait. maybe a free agent down the
line.
