Here's an opinion on how Billups performed in the game against
Dream Team 3 (Payton, Stockton, Penny), to give you a feel
for his style.
He came off the bench for maybe 6 min each half &
looks like he plays better D than Wesley!
Brevin Knight was the starter & Penetrated easily on
the NBA allstars & kicked out for jumpers alot.
The College kids were up by like 15 at the half.
Chauncey LOCKED UP PAYTON both times he was in. He's
like Derek Anderson or Payton in his lateral movement.
Is quick & fearless on help defense, and gets all loose balls.
Caused turnovers by Payton, Grant Hill, David Robinson.
Made 1 wide open 3 and a hotdog no look pass from half court.
Billups, Shea Seals, Duncan were the guys that stood up to the
allstars(no intimidation).
His weaknesses: Stockton blew past him w/ tricky dribbling.
He couldn't create for his teamates. He would feed the post
pretty good, but miss some weak running floaters in the lane
against the DT3 centers. Never exploded all the way to the
hole like Iverson or Marbury would.
Summary: we'll love watching Billups, Mercer, Fox run a
a trap. Billups anticipates like Mookie and Payton.
Carries himself like a leader(directs his teamates, makes
calls for the refs.)
Marbury predicted last year that Chauncey could have the
biggest impact of all the rookies. But he definitely didn't
penetrate & dish against DT3 or Kansas last year, not a good
assist man yet. Never dunks or gets up really high.
