The difference between the players who didn't get drafted but went to camps
(like Danya Abrams for example) and Lamar Odom is that the players like
Abrams were ELIGIBLE to be drafted and the teams simply chose not to draft
them.  Teams didn't have a choice of whether or not to draft Odom because
he didn't apply for the draft and was therefore eligible to be drafted. 
This is why he can't sign with a NBA team right now.
